Protection Discrimination Studies
Protection Discrimination is defined as the ability of a power system to detect and isolate a faulty circuit from the rest of the power system and maintain the power flow in all other parts of the power system. Protection discrimination studies are essential to ensure correct discrimination. A power system is modelled using their model parameters and short circuit fault levels are determined at various parts of the network using Etap or similar power system studies software. Protection curves are modelled at the various nodes or breakers of the network. Protection curves are coordinated on the various nodes such that lower stream devices operate faster than the upstream devices (breakers).
We at 4E Electrical Services have conducted a Protection Discrimination Study for Cheetham Salt 22 KV and LV distribution system recently using Etap software. We can perform protection discrimination studies for any power system in Brisbane and surrounds or all over Australia.
